Measure the wall it goes against, then measure the door it has to come through — the second one is what catches people out. Every listing gives overall width, depth and height, and for sectionals the depth of the chaise separately. Leave 30 to 36 inches for a walkway in front of it.

Case pieces like sideboards and bookcases arrive flat with the hardware in the box; sofas and sectionals usually need legs attached and modular pieces clipped together. The listing states it under assembly — if it is not stated, assume some assembly.

Solid takes a scratch and can be sanded; veneer looks the same and costs less but cannot be sanded back; laminate is the most forgiving with water. None of them is wrong — they are just different tradeoffs.
